Intelligent Applications to Assist Midwives


Innovative mobile applications "Childhood Application" for monitoring the physical growth of children aged 0-5 years are introduced to the midwives in the event of the National Working Meeting of the Indonesian Midwives Association Solo V on Tuesday (10/11/2011). In applications that can be accessed through mobile phones, the health workers such as midwives and general practitioners would be faster to do the monitoring of patients.

According to Dr. Tauhid Nur Azhar, who designed this application, the midwife just enter the data into columns which will then be stored. "These data could then be processed so that it can be used as a national data to determine the distribution of cases of malnutrition," he told a news conference in Solo.

Childhood application designed by a team from the College of IT Telkom Bandung Institute of Technology and this alone has won the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2011 world level in July 2011. In these applications are available a variety of features, such as nutritional status based on physical growth, schedule of vaccines, nutrition calculator, and dining guide.

Harni Koesno, Chairman of the Indonesian Midwives Association, said it was interested in the application of this Childhood. "The midwife as the vanguard of maternal and child health services would greatly assisted by an easy and inexpensive system like this," he said.

However, according to Tawheed, these applications still require refinement, especially verification of Indonesian Pediatric Association or the Ministry of Health, so that the parameters used is valid according to standards of professional organizations. "The principle of this application is available for download and use," he said.

For socialization and distribution of this application Tawhid and his team worked with PT Frisian Flag Indonesia. "Our hope would happen charging data migration from manual to digital," he said.
